This piece is 30 x 40, acrylic paint, and called "Purple Dreaming". I painted it one night in preparation for a 2016 art show. I was in a "mood" and didn't realize until after it was completed how much of myself I had poured into it. A viewer once said she could see how many times it was started then stopped, flipped around, done over, and finally after frustration, complete---all part of the healing process when you become a SURVIVOR of domestic violence.
The artwork is a tribute to the survivors/victims of Domestic Violence, myself included. The color purple represents the courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence. It has a long history of being used as a symbol by women seeking justice.
It is currently on display at the Wilmington Housing Authority until March 31st, after which it will be officially presented to a local domestic violence shelter in Wilmington, Delaware.
